Shrek 5 – First Trailer (2025) | DreamWorks

Shrek 5 is the latest installment in the hugely popular animated Shrek franchise, with a talented cast of actors and actresses in the film’s lead roles. Although detailed plans for the project haven’t been announced yet, the original cast has always been vocal about wanting to return to the franchise, and DreamWorks Animation has confirmed that Shrek 5 is definitely in development. The sequel will continue the story that was laid out in the previous installments, following these fan-favorite characters on another fun adventure.

The Shrek movies are well-known for their all-star casts of famous comedy actors, many of whom bring an unmatched sense of humor and entertainment to the story. Alongside these returning actors, Shrek 5 will likely follow in the footsteps of its predecessors by introducing a whole new cast of characters to further develop this fictional universe. For many members of the Shrek cast, it’s these roles that the actors have become synonymous with over the years, so their returns are hugely important for the success of the film.

Mike Myers As Shrek

Mike Myers as Shrek

The protagonist of the franchise, Shrek is an unsocial ogre who learns the value of friendship and compassion throughout his journeys with the other creatures in this fantasy land. His grumpy and offset attitude is a huge source of comedy in all four previous movies, as he’s often reluctant to work alongside others and prefers the solitude of his own company. Shrek is voiced by popular comedian Mike Myers, who is best known for his titular role in the Austin Powers franchise. The former Saturday Night Live cast member also starred in The Cat in the Hat and Wayne’s World.

Myers has often talked about his adoration for the Shrek franchise and promoted the idea of a fifth installment. Shrek 5 wouldn’t be possible without the actor’s involvement, as he’s become so synonymous with this character that it’s impossible to imagine anybody else in the role.

Eddie Murphy As Donkey

Donkey begins his journey in the Shrek franchise as comic relief, but he quickly becomes one of the easiest characters in the franchise to love. He first meets Shrek during a daring escape from captivity, which led to a close friendship between the two that will continue into Shrek 5. Despite being very different characters, both Shrek and Donkey are constantly learning from each other and always ready to have the other’s back. Donkey is voiced by Eddie Murphy, who famously played the characters of Axel Foley in Beverly Hills Cop, Prince Akeem in Coming to America, and Sherman Klump in The Nutty Professor.

Cameron Diaz As Princess Fiona

Although not much has been confirmed about Shrek 5, it’s impossible to continue this story without focusing on the relationship between Shrek and Princess Fiona. Introduced in the first installment, Fiona is a beautiful princess whom Shrek quickly falls in love with, despite their different physical appearances. At the end of the first movie, Fiona begins to reciprocate Shrek’s feelings and is ultimately transformed into an ogre like him. The character is played by Cameron Diaz, who is most famous for her roles in quirky comedies such as There’s Something About MaryThe Mask, and The Holiday.

Antonio Banderas As Puss In Boots

With Puss In Boots: The Last Wish’s reception as one of the best movies in the Shrek franchise, Antonio Banderas has also offered his enthusiasm for Shrek 5 to go ahead. His character is another of the fantasy creatures that Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona meet throughout their adventures, always willing to offer a helping hand when it’s needed. He’s a great source of comedy throughout the franchise, and given the success of his solo movies, he’d likely be a large part of Shrek 5. Talking to Deadline, Banderas claimed that “I’ve done five movies now. There is probably going to be another, and Shrek is probably coming back.”
